The team will process the parental applications for free school meals received for the academy against the national qualifying benefits. Academies will have access to fully trained staff with many years’ experience, knowledge and understanding of their area of responsibility. We are able to process applications quickly with access to the DFE's Eligibility Checking Service (ECS) which is only available to LAs, allow parents to apply once for the whole family and offer a coordinated approach to FSM where parent/carers can transfer eligibility from one school to another should they move without having to re-apply.
The LA has a responsibility to provide home to school transport for pupils resident in Wakefield who are eligible at statutory/Post 16 phases of education for both able bodied and SEN/disabled pupils. The team assesses whether pupils are eligible, organises transport for eligible pupils and ensures transport is cost effective, efficient and safe. All schools/academies have access to a dedicated transport team who offer advice and information on a local level.
