Ofsted findings show that the quality of subject leadership in music was a vital factor in improving provision and with an increased focus on a broad and balanced curriculum these sessions are invaluable for Music Leaders. With musical opportunities, singing and instrumental programmes now a feature in most schools, successful co-ordination of this exciting and essential part of the curriculum has never been so important. It would therefore be beneficial if the same person/s attend each termly afternoon session as there is an element of developmental work that carries throughout the year. Excellent feedback over the years from teachers and Headteachers show that these sessions are highly valued and an important line of support for the development of music within school.
By the end of the course participants will:
- Gain a greater knowledge of the National Plan for Music Education and recent National Curriculum and Ofsted developments
- Be more confident in ensuring progression and monitoring musical skills and knowledge throughout the school
- Be familiar with some of the latest resources to support the development of music that will enthuse and motivate teachers in schools
- Have a greater awareness of how Wakefield Music Services and Wakefield Music Education Hub can support the development of music in school
Network Meetings are also included for up to 2 members of staff, at no extra cost, for those schools that have signed up for the National Curriculum Music Support SLA Package.
