Safeguarding Basic Awareness


A basic introductory/refresher course for any staff/volunteer who is in contact with children and young people.


Objectives of the basic awareness face to face training are:
  • Define safeguarding and abuse in a school context
  • Name and define categories of abuse and recognize current signs and indicators
  • Identify vulnerable groups and current issues (for example FGM, radicalisation, CSE, forced marriage)
  • Consider lessons learnt for schools in national Serious Case Reviews (where a pupil has died as a result of abuse)
  • Consider professional behaviours and boundaries
  • State how to respond to concerns using school policy and procedures – Safeguarding/whistleblowing/code of conduct (including best practice – disclosures, recording and information sharing)
